Getting things ready from Alice Springs
Proper desert honey isn't imported from out of state and bottled in Alice. It's locally collected from the toughest trees in the country.
We're the only mob in the Territory harvesting proper raw outback desert honey from Desert Bloodwood and River Red Gum trees around Alice Springs. Our unfiltered honey is packed with natural enzymes and antioxidants because we don't mess with it.
"No processing, no heating, just honest honey from the bush."

Young Mr Kekwick in his prime.
W.D. Kekwick knew the outback better than most. He was second in command on J.M. Stuart's exploration journeys, spending months in country that would kill an unprepared man in days. His last job was with W.C. Goss collecting botanic and natural history specimens.
Story goes that Mr. Kekwick tried some of what he collected and reckoned:"Real men would prefer Desert Bloodwood while ladies might take kindly to River Red Gum."
We still harvest both around Alice Springs. Try the stronger Desert Bloodwood or the smoother River Red Gum (we won't judge). We also do raw honeycomb when it's available.
From trees in the middle of nowhere. This honey tastes like the outback - dark, strong, and not messing around.Dark amber • Strong flavour • Packed with antioxidants

From trees along dry riverbeds. Lighter, smoother, easier on the palate. Still tough as nails though.Golden colour • Smooth taste • All the good stuff intact

We're beekeepers, not doctors. Can't promise it'll cure anything, but locals keep coming back for it. Here's why desert honey's different from the processed stuff.
Raw local honey has the same pollen that's floating around. Locals reckon it helps with seasonal allergies - they keep buying it every year when the winds kick up.
When Territory winter hits, plenty of customers stock up for sore throats and general immunity. Raw honey's got antioxidants, enzymes, and nutrients that processed stuff doesn't have. Desert conditions make it even more concentrated.
No heating, no filtering, no factories. Goes from hive to jar with everything intact. What the bees put in stays in - pollen, enzymes, the lot.
Raw honey's got natural prebiotics and enzymes that help your gut. The desert creates compounds you won't find in honey from easier climates.
Natural sugars the way nature intended - not the processed stuff that sends your blood sugar all over the place. Plenty of customers use it for energy, especially doing physical work in Territory heat.
Desert plants don't mess around - they develop concentrated antioxidants to deal with extreme UV, heat, and stress. Our bees collect from these tough survivors and pack it straight into the jar.
Explore the essential tools we use for beekeeping and honey production in the harsh Australian outback.

Used to extract honey from the combs without damaging them. This essential spinner uses centrifugal force to separate honey from wax comb.

Essential tool for calming the bees. The smoke masks alarm pheromones and makes bees less likely to sting during hive inspections.

Used to crack a hive open and to ease frames out of the hive. Also good for scraping wax off hive furniture and prying apart stubborn components.

Trim branches away when getting to wild comb and swarms. Essential for accessing beehives in trees and dense vegetation.
Keeping bees in the desert isn't easy. 47°C days, months without rain, plants that bloom whenever they feel like it. But that's what makes our honey different. Our queens are tough - they've learned to work with what they've got. And when the desert finally blooms after a bit of rain, the pollen's packed with stuff you won't find anywhere else.

Raw honey from desert-tough trees. No fancy packaging or marketing - just honest honey that actually tastes like something. Extracting now - limited batch.

Same premium honey, six 150g jars. Perfect for sampling or gifting. Warning: regular honey may disappoint after this. Extracting now - limited batch.

Same honey, smaller jar. Perfect for trying or gifting. Just so you know - once you taste this, regular honey will disappoint. Extracting now - limited batch.

Raw honeycomb straight from the hive. No processing, no spinning - just wax, honey, and whatever the bees decided to include. Cutting now - limited batch.

Bred tough in Alice Springs conditions. These queens handle 45°C summers and freezing winters - conditions that would kill most southern queens.

Pollen from whatever's flowering out here in the scrub. We collect it when we can - desert plants don't bloom on your schedule, they bloom when they bloody well feel like it after a bit of rain. Seasonal stuff, so don't expect it year-round. Contact us if you want some.
Folks from all over Australia are discovering what real desert honey tastes like.
"Been buying this for about a year now. It's this nice light golden colour, way prettier than the dark stuff you get at Woolies. I use it in my morning tea and on sourdough. Really smooth taste, not overly sweet like some honeys can be."

"Bought the mixed pack as a gift for my mum, she wouldn't shut up about it so I had to order one for myself. Honestly thought 'desert honey' was a gimmick but it's legit. Thick, not too sweet. The jar's a bit annoying to get the last bit out but that's a minor gripe."

"Took about 5 days to get to Melbourne which was fine. Packaged well. This is what honey should taste like. I won't pretend I can describe the 'floral notes' or whatever but it's clearly better quality than supermarket stuff. Kids love it too."

Enquire About WholesaleThe trees our bees work have survived decades of 47°C summers and droughts. They don't mess around - they put everything into their nectar. Desert Bloodwood's got a stronger, more intense flavour. River Red Gum's smoother, lighter. Both taste like actual honey, not sugar water.
Yep. Straight from the hive into the jar. No heating, no filtering, no processing. If it crystallises (which it will - that's normal), just sit the jar in some warm water. Don't microwave it or you'll kill all the good stuff.
Our hives are around Alice Springs. We work Desert Bloodwood trees along dry riverbeds and River Red Gum trees. Some of these trees are hundreds of years old - they've seen everything the desert can throw at them.
We ship from Alice Springs anywhere in Australia. Usually 5-10 business days depending on where you are. We pack it properly so it gets there in one piece. If you're local, you can pick it up from us.
Yeah, when we've got them. Only in Australia though - can't ship queens overseas. They're bred for heat and drought. Availability depends on the season and whether the breeding worked out.
Room temperature, sealed container. Don't put it in the fridge - that makes it crystallise faster. If it does crystallise (which is normal for raw honey), just warm the jar gently in some hot water. Never microwave it.
Some locals reckon our honey helps with seasonal allergies because of the local pollen. We're not doctors though, so we can't make any promises. If you've got serious allergies, talk to your doctor first.
If something's wrong - damaged in shipping, not what you expected, whatever - just get in touch within 14 days and we'll sort it out. We want you to actually taste what real desert honey is supposed to taste like.
